Home Scents // Stress-free

Whether it’s by using candles, lotions, or essential oils, aroma therapy is very beneficial! Not only can certain scents help decrease stress and anxiety, but they can also positively effect brain chemistry as well as blood flow. Lavender, in particular has long be lauded as a stress reducing scent, but there are many more! In case you want to think outside the lavender stress-relief box, here are some other top scents to try!

Spiced Apple Candles

These candles are a two for one! The scent combination of apples and cinnamon has proven to be effective in relieving stress and anxiety and lowering blood pressure. Together, these scents pack a powerful punch! The smell of tart, crisp apples (especially the green Granny Smith variety) is also known to relieve migraine symptoms. According to a few studies (yep!), the scent of cinnamon on its own can increase attention span and motor response. Put the two together and those candles will emit warm, cozy scents that will keep stress at bay.

Coconut

Ever smell coconut and not think of the beach? That might be part of what makes this scent so effective as a stress reliever! Try adding a few drops of coconut essential oil to your bath water to slow down heart rate and soothe frayed and frazzled nerves. Or, if you’re lazy, one or two coconut-scented candles will do. Lay back, relax, and almost hear those waves lapping at the shore while the stress melts away.

Lemon & Citrus Candles

Even though citrus is primarily thought of as an invigorating scent, it has proven in some studies to promote a sense of calm even if by taking just a quick whiff! It can also help decrease stress or feelings of anxiety. Citrus-scented candles are widely available, but consider also using a citrus-scented lotion or even beauty products that can do the trick on the go.

Pine Candles

No, we are not talking about that “pine” scent that they use for air fresheners or cleaning supplies! A good essential oil or a high quality candle with an authentic pine smell is what is called for here. A study from Japan resulted in anxious participants feeling drastically more at ease and generally more relaxed after inhaling this scent over a period of time.

Jasmine Candles

Not only are these sweet little flowers easy on the eyes, but their aroma also helps improve mood, reduce anxiety, and lessen depression. As if you needed another reason to fill your home with the amazing scent of these sweet little buds! Burn a jasmine candle on your coffee table or find some fresh blooms for your kitchen to reap the rewards!
