With Sharjah creeping its way up to one of the top places on our arts and culture list, we’re taking a bit of time to tell you about the Al Majaz Amphitheater and its roster of upcoming performances. It is dedicated to bringing the community a broad range of performance art, plays, musicals, community events and concerts.
Built in 2014, the open-air theatre is inspired by the Roman-style amphitheater and at 7,238 square meters in area, the theatre can accommodate 4,500 spectators and has become an architectural monument that integrates with the aesthetics of Sharjah.

With an exciting line up for The New Year, The Modern East has put together a list of their must-see shows!
After setting light to a fully sold out international arena tour and a UK run which sold out in under a minute, phenomenon Lewis Capaldi is coming to Sharjah to perform, January 17th. No. #1 in the USA Billboard Charts – and one of the first artists in history to announce an arena run before the release of a debut album. Lewis will bring his stunningly identifiable voice, incredible wit and unequivocally relatable songs to the iconic Al Majaz Amphitheater. For those of you who don’t know Lewis, we strongly suggest to take in some of his tunes – not only can the guy sing, but he has a HUGE personality and plans to bring not only his voice, but his wit and hilariously beautiful, turbulent themes to his UAE fans.
A legend to the Lebanese and wider Arab community, Marcel Khalife, composer, singer and oud player, is gracing us with presence at the Al Majaz Amphitheatre, 7:30 pm, March 13th, 2020. On this promising evening, the tunes of Oud will meet that of the acoustic guitar, and we will embark on a journey that starts from Lebanon towards Algeria.
Though born in Lebanon, Marcel Khalife is a cultural icon throughout the Arab world. Perhaps no other contemporary artist has so changed the face of Arab music. Classically trained on the Oud at the National Academy of Music in Beirut, Khalife refused to be limited by the rigidity of tradition, thus significantly expanding the possibilities of Arab Music. Yet for such an innovative composer, Khalife is amazingly popular.
